Here is the background: the China Center for Adoption Affairs (CCAA) organized a summer camp in August of 2007 for children who were born in China and adopted by American parents.

The program, “Embracing China & Experiencing Beijing” was designed to help children who were born in China and raised in the United States better understand the culture of their native country.

The National Council for Adoption coordinated the camp, which was held in China’s historic and colorful capital city of Beijing. Camp participants had the opportunity to study Chinese history, culture, and traditional art. They visited CCAA, social welfare institutes, the Forbidden City, and the Summer Palace. They climbed the Great Wall, walked through hutongs, spent a day with a family in Beijing, and exchanged experiences with Chinese students of the same age.

There was an adviser for every ten children. CCAA covered all in-country expenses, including insurance. Participating families handled their child's international travel expenses.

The summer camp lasted for ten days from August 14 through August 23.
